That’s interesting, because there’s a popular saying in Buddhism, do not mistake the finger pointing at the moon for the moon itself. It’s said that truth is like the moon and words are like a finger pointing at the moon, but if you only look at the finger, you miss the moon.

There’s quite a few Sufi sayings along this line, but the basic one is, “Don’t mistake the container for the thing it contains”.
Given the Silk Road connection between Africa and Asia, I wouldn’t be surprised that there’s shared wisdom across the path - for example the Ifa divination with the Odu uses the same binary system as the Chinese I-Ching, only differing in the number of divisions being read.

The funny thing in this fucked up mess? I was totally interested in having the conversation. Thought it was necessary & I expected it to be difficult & fraught with emotion. But you don’t get to drop fighting words (I don’t give a damn what anyone says, “spitting on your ancestors” was not about anything but disrespecting black Americans), and then claim that no one has a right to respond.
